Over the past few decades, Psychiatry as a medical discipline has been transformed due to the enormous advances in the Neurosciences. It is an exciting time to be in the field of Psychiatry. because many treatment options are available for those who are suffering with mental illness.

The introduction of medication, imaging and varied treatment methods has provided hope for treating patients suffering from mental illness.

Medical Doctors who specialize in Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology are trained to use these tools to help patients.  Treatment begins with a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation. I believe that the decision to use medication must be based on a thorough assessment by an experienced psychiatrist. I have years of experience in diagnosing and treating mental illness, as well as maintaining the mental health of my patients.  I have worked in many different area in the mental health field, including community psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, addiction medicine, clinical research and finally in private practice. I have worked with neuroimaging leaders at both Mount Sinai and NYU. I appreciate having a diverse background as it provides me with many skills to treat a wide variety of patients with complex conditions. I find the  long term relationships I have with my patients one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. Relieving mental suffering is an attainable goal in modern Psychiatry.

My philosophy is that a healthy brain is key for well being, balance and optimal functioning. Making an accurate diagnosis is the most important first step in treating patients. Treatment should be tailored to the needs of each individual. I believe that genetics and biology determine certain predispositions for people but environment, parenting, and life experiences all contribute to make each individual completely unique. My practice involves understanding and integrating all of these factors to effect a treatment each individual.
